The CEO's journey
How a teacher, a borrowed printer and a family built Penfix.
Maria Allen Quiambao spent most of her teaching years at Holy Angel University, handling Computer Science and IT courses. The university's former President assigned her to the University Printing Press as a graphics artist, designing publications for every department. With that exposure, Allen, as she is fondly called, opened a small business printing mugs, t-shirts, documents and tarpaulins.
A former college classmate who supplied printing and labelling machines lent the business its first tarpaulin printer. When a million-peso contract with the university came up, Allen and her family worked doubly hard to deliver it with limited resources. Her time off from teaching went to trips to Manila for suppliers, and those suppliers became lasting relationships.
In 2016 the family focused on signages and advertising materials, and the business became Penfix Advertising and Business Solutions. Instead of competing with other advertising businesses, Penfix became their supplier, with special prices for start-ups, building a community of advertisers who share and learn from each other. Allen shares her story so others find the courage to start, and to pay it forward.
Today Penfix serves its own community and other areas in the region.
Start building your dreams, else someone will hire you and start building theirs.
